In this study, a prefabricated composite column detail using angle (PSRC composite column) was developed. Cyclic lateral loading tests were performed for 2/3 scale-down PSRC and existing SRC column specimens to evaluate the
earthquake load resistance under axial loading. The arrangement of angles and the continuous lateral reinforcing bars were used as the test parameter. The test results showed that since the angles placed along the perimeter of column section, the PSRC column specimens exhibited better load-carrying capacity than that of the existing SRC column specimen using H-section at the center of column section, and the load-carrying capacity was decreased by the buckling of angles after cover concrete spalling. The deformation capacity of the PSRC column specimens using the continuous hoop was greater than that of the existing PSRC column specimen. In the PSRC column using the continuous hoop, although the studs were not used for simple details, bond failure of angle was prevented by steel plate. The load-carrying capacity of the all column specimens was greater than the nominal strength specified in KBC 2009.
