<li style="text-align: left;">Abstract: A bolted end-plate splice (BB splice) of L-shaped steel angles for encased composite column (PSRC column) is investigated. End plates are welded to the end of the spliced angles at a shop and are butted to each other with bolt tightening. Due to the bearing surface of end-plate, it is easy to connect column splice and the number of bolts can be reduced with a consideration of tensile resistance of bolts. The deformation and prying action need to be considered for a bolted end-plate splice, because the centroids of the angle and bolt sections do not coincide. Thus, the minimum thickness of end plate is proposed based on the yield line theory, and the tensile strength of the connection decreased by the prying force is estimated. The direct tension tests of bare angle splice and flexural tests of the encased composite column are performed to investigate the strength and failure mode of the connection. In addition, the stress distribution and force transfer mechanism are investigated through the finite element analysis. The proposed design method of bolted end-plate splice agrees well with the experimental and analytical results.</li>

this study, the results of the experimental investigation of the bolted splice for concrete-filled thin-walled tube columns are presented. For the connection of the column tube, the bolted lap plate joint was used at each tube wall and non-planar ribbed plates were used as the lap plate at the joint in order to improve the connection performance such as strength and slip resistance. To investigate the connection strength and failure mode, five full scale column specimens with different lap joint details were tested. The tests showed that the ribbed lap plates were beneficial to increasing the strength and slip resistance of the joint as the ribbed portion provided additional resistance. The failure modes of the joint were net section fracture and block shear rupture of the lap plate or tube wall. The force transfer mechanism at the joint via the bolts and ribbed lap plates was also investigated based on strain measurements. Finally, a plastic stress distribution method to estimate the connection strength of the column splice was proposed.</li>

<li style="text-align: left;">Abstract: In order to investigate the structural performance of a novel prefabricated-SRC column using bolt-connected steel angles(PSRC column), eccentric axial loading tests were performed for six PSRC column specimens and two conventional SRC column specimens. The test parameters were the spacing and sectional configurations of lateral reinforcement, and eccentricity ratio of axial load. The test results showed that, due to high axial-stiffness of the angles located at the corners of the cross section, the compressive load-carrying capacity and deformation capacity of the PSRC specimens were greater than those of the SRC specimens in the large eccentricity ratio of axial load. Closely spaced lateral steel plates and Z-shaped lateral steel plates improved lateral confinement, which increased the load-carrying capacity of the PSRC specimens. The combined flexural and axial load-carrying capacity of the specimens by tests and nonlinear numerical analysis were greater than the predictions by current design codes. The numerical analysis agreed well with the test results including the initial stiffness, peak strength, and post-peak strength degradation.</li>

Concentric axial loading tests were performed for four 2/3 scaled PSRC column specimens and two conventional SRC column specimens. The test parameters were the spacing and sectional configurations of lateral reinforcement, and width-to-thickness ratio of steel angles. The test results showed that the axial load-carrying capacity and deformation capacity of the PSRC column specimens were comparable to those of the conventional SRC column specimens. Closely spaced steel plates and Z-shaped steel plates for lateral reinforcement increased the deformation capacity of the PSRC column specimens. The load-carrying capacity was greater than the prediction by current design codes. Numerical analysis was performed for the specimens. The results agreed well with the test results in terms of initial stiffness, load-carrying capacity, except for strength degradation due to cover concrete spalling.</li>

<li>Abstract: Concentric and eccentric axial load tests on 2/3 scaled B-PSRC(Bolt-connected Prefabricated Steel Reinforced Concrete) and conventional SRC column specimens were performed. The experiment variables were the shape of vertical steel sections, the vertical spacing of transverse steel elements, the shape of transverse steel sections, the eccentric distance of axial load. Using concentric load test, The B-PSRC specimens showed similar degree of load-carrying capacity and deformation capacity compared to the conventional SRC specimens. Integrated section behaviors between concrete and steel angles were verified by eccentric load tests, showing well-fitted results with P-M interaction curves obtained from numerical section analysis.</li>
